Sitting in Toronto airport, exhausted, waiting to board a midnight flight to Manchester. The last 24 hours reminded us all of the ‘downs’ in the ‘ups and downs’ of travel. That said, I’m an optimist to a fault and silver linings abound. My kids would tell you I say “it is what it is” way too often. Sometimes the suck happens and your only choice is to suck it up. Our flight out of St John’s was delayed 7 hours to 3am and we missed our connection in Toronto to Manchester. The wobble led to <24 hours in Toronto, the discovery of “day use” hotel rates, mega-napping and a brief stint downtown. Worst (or best) of all was discovering in fact there is a direct St John’s to UK (Gatwick) flight, 3x weekly. But alas, dear reader, it did not hit my radar during trip planning. Passing on that nugget so nobody repeats our itinerary ;)

Even more zonkered in the Toronto airport:
Being tired does make one wonky (my brain literally turns to molasses) but none of this is the end of the world, or close. Plus we learned so much!! Silver lining!! We’ve only “booked stuff” through Spain so there will be a gagillion decisions ahead. Hopefully we’re a bit wiser for our recent shenanigans. Honestly the biggest bummer is I saw none of my beloved family & friends in the Toronto area!!
