Ruta Day 5

Today we completed the loop. It was a long saunter through forests, open fields and the occasional medieval town. We resumed our shepherd hiking vibe. Now the views were our valley and the striking Serra del Cadi mountains behind. Weather was glorious. As we neared the end, all of a sudden we could see Justin and Hazel walking towards us. What an absolute treat. We hugged, held hands, and walked back to the car. Twenty minutes later we were home. For 5 magical days the combination of the weather gods + pressure systems kept us bathed in sunshine and blue skies. The sky is now moody, dark and ominous. Feeling lucky. Happy. Proud of Will.

My body and feet feel surprisingly good. Light packs change everything. I have to give a shout out to my beloved runners, Salomon Speedcross. Many times during the walk I would look down at them fondly. Their bright cheery color always gave me a smile. It’s amazing how much the right gear changes things. Speedcross’ came into my life in ‘06, the one year I did adventure racing. I found myself constantly off-piste and side-hilling and desperately wanting footwear with torsional stability to stop me sliding and falling sideways down hills!! No idea how many pairs I’ve owned since then. Will rocks them too.

Lastly, the biggest thanks to Will for being an incredible trail buddy and hiking partner. What a gift it was to do the Ruta de Estanys Amagats together. I will never forget it. I love you.
