We awoke to a stunning sunrise. Wind was up too. We bundled up and headed even higher. Brave Will agreed to summit Pic de la Colilla. Um, the translation is “peak of the butt”. I am not making this up. So apparently we were on the butt of the Pyrenees. Stunning views in every direction. Layers upon layers of mountains, everywhere. Alone. Barely saw anyone today. Coming down the peak into a massive bowl, Will spotted a handful of deer (mountain roe deer). The deer spotted us. Suddenly about one hundred deer charged up the bowl, away from us. Their speed was stunning. Deer flying. We also saw marmots and a fox today. Will spots everything.
We did a lot of off piste travel today through high alpine terrain towards a creek down the mountain. Eventually we ended up on Sierra-like trails in a pine forest. Finally we popped out at the refugi where Killian Jornet grew up. We’re staying here tonight. Tomorrow we’ll complete the loop. I miss the high alpine already. What a joy to spend days up high with Will. Memories of a lifetime, and you know it when it’s happening.
