Arriving in Manchester we managed to get a rental car that fit all our gear (hello bike!!) without strapping anything to the roof (old school Kirkby style). Will was dispatched to find us a nearby coffee shop. They singularly excel at this task!! Quickly we found ourselves in Altrincham which struck me as both very lovely and very British. The kids couldn’t stop saying “OMG everything is so British” which is both hilarious and I knew exactly what they meant. The coffee was exceptional. A quick walk around town and we hit the road.
An epic (torrential rain) and relatively short drive brought us to the west coast of Wales. A beautiful middle of nowhere destination near Tywyn. Growing up, our family would visit every other summer. My father is buried here. To say it holds a special place in my heart is an understatement. Since arriving both kids have declared they could live here forever. “Mum, we could come to the beach everyday after school” - Hazel.
We’re here until Sunday. I’m going to soak up every bit of it and re-live my childhood with my kids :) And clean my father’s gravestone. If humans had terroir like grapes, this is mine. I’m feeling so wildly grateful we’re on this trip.
Tywin is BEAUTIFUL!
