Here are some new habits I hope will stick:
Evening Strolling. Or movement. Just doing something, together. This is made so much easier when dinner is late since you’re not trying to cram it in as another “to do”. Also easier during the longer days of the year.
Less driving. More walking. Walking or biking to do errands is so dreamy. Imagine walking to school. Or to the school bus.
Doing more together. Doing less overall. Our lives are vastly simpler here. Less busy. Less rushed. Life tranquilo. One of my great delights of the trip is how much time we’re spending together. It really was the point :) On the road the “default” is we’re together. Easy. There’s so much more friction at home in the form of activities, school, and more. Busy lives. Busy calendars.
Those feel like the big ones right now. Ultimately it’s about more space and time for living and loving. I stumbled across a Tibetan proverb when we were in St John’s that has been tucked away in a pile of quotes … “The secret to living well and longer is eat half, walk double, laugh triple, and love without measure”. Pretty similar to the conclusions from The Harvard Study re: how to live a happy and meaningful life. That study has been running for 85 years. I sometimes get the feeling there is a lot of research that helps us learn what our ancestors knew.
Speaking of love:
And speaking of evening strolling, some scenes from where I stroll:
More strolling pics. I will miss this mightily. Last pic is from my perch in old town where I sometimes just go to linger and bask in the awe of it all. Better to have loved, for sure.
