A Day in the Life

Today I wandered in the forest drinking coffee while chatting with my Mum on FaceTime. I went to a Pilates class. I can actually see the Pilates studio when I’m laying in bed!! I’m not kidding when I said we’re living on Main Street this week. Went to the library with Hazel to do homeschool. Bought a rotisserie chicken for lunch. Read my book for a few minutes ;) I am slowly reading ‘The Convenant of Water’ which takes place in Kerala. Took the kids to the dentist. No cavities. Went to a place called “Mend” for sauna-cold plunge-hot tub. Soooo good. Two Aussie dudes in the sauna were swapping notes on their weekends. One had been partying in the bush at a big event put on by backpackers. DJ’s, food trucks, 3 dance floors, 24 hour partying. When describing his all-nighter he said “sometimes I reckon it’s just good to boogie”. That is quality life advice right there!! Love it. Dance on. Love hearing dudes use the word “boogie”, especially with an Aussie accent.
Yesterday was a gym day. I’m still on Sydney time which means I’m up at dawn. Everyone else is on WA time so I’m back from the gym before most of them wake up :) Hazel came and met me at the coffee shop on my way home. Still noticing art in town. How did I literally not notice this before? Sometimes we’re awake but we’re not awake.
Yesterday we also went for a family walk on a stretch of the Cape to Cape trail near Conto campground. It was high above the ocean with stunning views on a moody afternoon.

Justin suggested a late afternoon surf. How can I say no? But my body was tired from gym + hike. Off we went. There were a few more people in the ocean than we expected. My motivation was so low. We just stood and stared at the sets roll in for a long time. If he’d said “let’s just go home” or “let’s go for a sunset walk” I would have been ‘yes’ in an instant. But he said “let’s just paddle out”. So we did. By then it was a sunset surf session. So good. I like “let’s just paddle out” as maybe a life metaphor or mantra. Feels like a good reminder not to overthink things. Maybe it’s the WA edition of Nike’s Just Do It. It definitely honors the chilled out WA vibes.

Despite all the good advice tossed my way, the quote of the day came from Hazel “People that get gelato in the morning are my people”. There is wisdom everywhere if you pay attention.
